Take Control of Your Child's Nearsightedness
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is one of the most common vision problems in children today. But it’s not just about needing glasses. Left unmanaged, myopia can progress rapidly, increasing your child’s risk for severe eye conditions later in life.
At Ravine Eye Center and Eye Group, we provide comprehensive myopia management that does more than just correct blurry distance vision—it helps slow or even stop the progression of myopia. With advanced treatments, we help kids and teens in Wall and Oakhurst see more clearly today, while protecting their eye health for tomorrow.
What is Myopia?
Nearsightedness (myopia) is an eye condition where you can see objects up close clearly—but things in the distance look blurry. It happens when the eye grows too long from front to back, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it.
Most cases of myopia begin in childhood and tend to worsen as kids grow, especially during school-age years and early teens.
How to Know if Your Child Needs Myopia Management?
Some signs are obvious—others, not so much. You should schedule a myopia consultation if:
- Your child squints to see distant objects (like the board at school)
- They hold books or screens very close
- They’ve been diagnosed with nearsightedness before age 10
- Their prescription has increased each year
- They complain of headaches or eye strain
- There's a family history of myopia (especially in parents)
Even if your child already wears glasses or contacts, myopia management can help prevent their vision from getting worse.
